Retrogaming of the 8 and 16 bit variety. That's my jam. 😎

Heh .. they really wanted to be taken seriously.
Rather than saying "It's perfect for Arkanoid and Operation Wolf!" ..which probably would've got more sales.

IV has its place, but is the least exciting sounding mission. 😄
I: kill bad guy
II: kill bad gal
III: kill bad boy
IV: learn to be good 😎
V: we've lost british! oh crap! try not to die! 😋
VI: new bad guys! don't let them kill you! 😮
VII: bad guy again.. looks like hellboy.🤔

Must have been interesting to start at Ultima V. I had seen II, and started with III myself, trying to destroy the last evil power. Then IV presented a world trying to recover from the wars of I, II, and III. And V was back into darkness with Lord British lost in the Underworld.

Ultima V was stunning but *so* *much* *loading*! 😮
So it's absolutely transformative to be able to play it on the C64 now, with music, with no disk-swapping, and near-instantaneous loading. These single-disk and easyflash re-releases are making life so easy for us now. 😁

I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. 😋

One day I should set-up my virtual Amiga environment to actually play the occasional CD-32 title. (I did have a CD-32 briefly.) But so many of them had almost no CD-specific content, I really haven't found the motivation. 🤔

If you can step up to 1MB CHIP then that opens you up for stuff like Superfrog, Super Methane Bros, Turbo Trax, Chaos Engine, ElfMania (with 0.5MB Fast) and stuff like that. 🤔 I mean, sure, you won't be running Rise of the Robots.. but that's probably for the best anyway. 😋

"1MB RAM will run nothing" is a bit unfair. A cursory look through my WHDLoad installs lists 0.5 MB Chip and 0.5 MB Fast needed for Fire and Ice, BC Kid, Rick Dangerous, Planetfall, Defender of the Crown, Rocket Ranger, Shadow Fighter. It's the preload option that sucks RAM. 😄

I'm glad you did too. Just about all my high-school days involved one of the Ultima games. And they each told a great tale. I loved entering Ultima V and suddenly finding a darker world, without the protection of Lord British. Not even the towns were safe. That was an experience.

Yeah, I started with C64 Ultima III, and it was kinda of a standard classic RPG: choose race/class/stats for each player, different wizard and cleric spells, etc. 🤔 And the 3D dungeons have this stark look, and they're dangerous and confusing. That might well be intentional. 😄
