@TheSplendidFox @000Angus000 @LoveRetroBTW @RetroGamingDev @Retrogamebrews @RetroBoyJon @RetroGamersClub @prime_retro @retrogaminggeek @VGR4lyfe @RetroBlastUS @gamesyouloved @gamesfreezer I think it can auto-detect Steam/GOG installs and pull the files these days.
Now modding is super-cool. You can have it playing the PSX or Amiga music (or any music) instead of the DOS MIDI. You can have new and rotated UFO layouts, if you already know the default ones backwards.
@TheSplendidFox @000Angus000 @LoveRetroBTW @RetroGamingDev @Retrogamebrews @RetroBoyJon @RetroGamersClub @prime_retro @retrogaminggeek @VGR4lyfe @RetroBlastUS @gamesyouloved @gamesfreezer I mean, it was amazing they got it working on Amiga. It can be played from floppy-disk (and the Amiga was only 880k floppy-disks) on an A1200 with 14MHz CPU and 2MB RAM. But it wasn't well optimized, so was slow on the upper floors of big UFO's. But an amazing game regardless. 👍
@TheSplendidFox @000Angus000 @LoveRetroBTW @RetroGamingDev @Retrogamebrews @RetroBoyJon @RetroGamersClub @prime_retro @retrogaminggeek @VGR4lyfe @RetroBlastUS @gamesyouloved @gamesfreezer And then there's the option to play on MacOS too. And game options for weapon-accuracy-model, disabling night-missions, shooting through blocked line-of-sight, pre-equipping soldiers, better inventory-handling, auto-unequipping stuff when selling ships, etc, etc.
@TheSplendidFox @000Angus000 @LoveRetroBTW @RetroGamingDev @Retrogamebrews @RetroBoyJon @RetroGamersClub @prime_retro @retrogaminggeek @VGR4lyfe @RetroBlastUS @gamesyouloved @gamesfreezer That said, in modern times, what you actually want to do is get XCom on Steam or GOG, and then get OpenXCom, which uses the assets of the original game, but is re-written from scratch with the (many) bugs fixed, and so many quality-of-life improvements its hard to tweet them. 🤓
@TheSplendidFox @000Angus000 @LoveRetroBTW @RetroGamingDev @Retrogamebrews @RetroBoyJon @RetroGamersClub @prime_retro @retrogaminggeek @VGR4lyfe @RetroBlastUS @gamesyouloved @gamesfreezer Now this is where it gets interesting. Back in the day, the Amiga version was rushed out the door, it wasn't complete (no night, no animation.) But I started on the Amiga version, so I find night-time and flares annoying and fiddly. But the DOS version is definitely better. 😎
@MrVGBrow @kitchengarry "You have never experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon."
Keystone Kapers. Best enjoyed on the C64. 😉
@kamelito @WeHeartBoxArt @JudgeDrokk But, that said, there are *so* many vertical scrolling shooters in the world that this could be mere coincidence. It also feels a little Xevious to me. 😄 And, at least Hybris does go to much more fanciful landscapes in the later levels. It's really a stunning game. 👍
@WeHeartBoxArt @JudgeDrokk And then, after playing that, it's compulsory to go straight onto Battle Squadron. The next game they programmed. More awesome shooting action, but with a two player simultaneous option too. 😮
@WeHeartBoxArt @JudgeDrokk Brilliant brilliant shoot-em-up. 👍
It's like Terra Cresta, but cooler. 😎
@RMCRetro Huh.. I don't think I've ever played the MegaDrive version of Wolf3D. I've generally been playing the DOS version (lately, in DOSBox.) Though, strangely enough, these screenshots are from an Amiga version. Which was fun to tinker around with back when I didn't have a PC.. 😄
