@JamesPond47 @davidmt @C64Retweets The sprint running was totally a joystick waggler. 😩 The relay was some funky balance of energy for speed, which never really enticed me. So usually I'd play Summer Games 2, and only include the Pole Vault, Diving, Skeet Shoot, and maybe some swimming from Summer Games 1. 😁
@C64Reloaded But, don't take that as any disrespect to Karate Champ. I did a few of years of Karate myself, I was impressed at how these cartoon-y looking characters were doing real formal karate moves that I could recognize. And the gameplay was solid. (Love the dual-stick controls too.) 👍
@C64Reloaded It was obviously a C64 take on Karate Champ at the arcade. But that had quite basic, cartoon-y graphics. The characters and backgrounds in Exploding Fist seemed 'realistic'. Like a whole step up from that. Very rare to see something that looked better than its arcade counterpart.
@C64Reloaded When we got the tape, I was reading the instructions as we went home. I was kinda blown away that they'd managed to fit 16 moves into a single-button eight-way stick. Then the error detecting turbo loader, the "oh s**t!" scream loading screen, and the beautiful music.. Very nice.
@C64Reloaded International Karate, and IK+ came out reasonably soon after Exploding Fist. And they kinda took all the air out of the room. So I think people forget what a landmark game Exploding Fist was at the time. There was no 8-bit fight-game that could even touch it. It was a stunner. 👊
@davidmt @C64Retweets Before we had our C64, this game was on demo at the town computer shop, it seemed like forever.
The swimming and running events are kinda forgettable. But, for me, the pole-vault, diving, and skeet shoot work really well. 👍
@CommodoreFormat I hear that music in my head already..
🎵 do do do do do
🎵 do do, do do do do
🎵 do do do do do
🎵 do do, do do do do
🎵 do do beeeeeeew beeeeeeeeew beeeeeeeeew..
🎵 beeeeeew, beeew beeew beeew..
👍
@OldTechAdverts I like that having twenty screens is a feature point. 🙂
Interesting game. Terrible sound. Much more puzzle-y than, say, Bruce Lee. Feels like Goonies, with a sword. 😁
