Carline thistle Carlina vulgaris. A strange plant - even when it's alive and well it looks a little dead cause of the straw-coloured flowers. It's much pricklier than my botanical illustration suggests and was brutal to illustrate.
Blog out on all things #cowparsley: https://t.co/s6Zj3J1I9G How to I.D. it, why it's a pain to do #botanicalillustrations of, and why I love it. Unseasonal, apologies. I think the original is still available to buy if anyone's interested. #Anthriscussylvestris @wildflower_hour
@britbutterflies @ukbutterflies @savebutterflies Hello all, a client wants to know if the White Admiral is ever a pollinator of honeysuckle? I know caterpillars feed on Lonicera leaves, but thought pollination would be more of a hawkmoth thing? What do you think? Thanks so much
@BBC6Music #peoplesplaylist @huwstephens Here are two suitably autumnal leaf #botanicalillustrations I've done to go with today's playlist...
Blog out,on the #botany of @IhlCannockChase & the recent trip https://t.co/AI5lfk1jR1 took, with a visit to the museum.

This is my #botanicalillustration of #Russula xerampelina (I think). English names include Crab Brittlegill. Edible, grows in conifer forests, and implicated in treatment of some cancers, it also inhibits growth of #Plasmodiumfalciparum (https://t.co/Q6sK7Qq28P @UltimateMushro1)
@buchfieber @elinetabak @NitzkeSolvejg @Buzz_dont_tweet @wildflower_hour @bienenanja @Harpur This is fabulous too. I knew about bats being pollinators, but this expands the offer. Thankyou!
@Emmas_artworks @Buzz_dont_tweet @wildflower_hour Emma, this is brilliant. And yes of course it's species specific. I wish thistles had been on my list, they seem to attract EVERYTHING, and theyre soo much fun to illustrate, too!
@Buzz_dont_tweet @wildflower_hour Man you guys ROCK. I'm going to do that right away. Cheers!
#Pollinator #insects I'm researching a list of insect pollinator spc for a variety of UK plant species. I'm looking for diversity, not just A. mellifera. Any chance you lovely folks on Twitter could help? Species 7: #Ivy #Hederahelix
