Creating character and form with freehand linework and watercolour on artist (HP) paper.

Experimenting with a smooth surface as I prepared a piece of art paper with an acrylic binder (to protect it against oil paint).

There are aspects I like, like how the brush strokes glide, but I don't like not being to add further oil layers.

An owner once let me photograph their dog whilst I was visiting a NT near Exeter (2016). Just look at his old beautiful face and expression, I just melted 💕

I have no idea who dog owner is & I wished I could pass the pastel to them as a gift. NT wont let me put up a poster☹️

This is the second badger I did today - an older one. I still need to adjust the left side of his head as it still does not read correctly.

They are quite a difficult challenge as a difficult form

I still haven't worked on the crow/puffin (chickened out still as I don't know what pencil to apply over them). but tested out any medium I had around me. I took one look at this hornbill and thought pirate! and a pirate he became.......

I decided to try another portrait and to not worry about colour, but try & treat it as a way to form shape by being cold/warmer. I actually taught myself a bit more & will hopefully take this into the next portrait I experiment with

Experimenting further with mark making and adding Cold wax to oil paint. Lesson learnt:- don't use brushes!

I grabbed a piece of watercolour paper and primed with gesso in pink. Working really loosely, I built up the layers in acrylic and then the cold wax.

Testing different surfaces today - first test was on a pastel gesso. Actually loved the surface, but need to use a brighter colour. Detail might be a issue, but still experimenting.

i'll post the same beetle on a smooth paper in a minute, which has hit loads of problems

I carefully finished off the framing yesterday and safely delivered them.

I've attached a selection of paintings available for sale at the gallery.

I've worked on another painting today in oil. Direct observation of the sunflower and gereberas. The main reason I painted this still life was the contrast of the sunflower.

I attached photo's of the flowers in the vase & my initial drawing in charcoal on the stained board.
