#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by @TiphanieBeeke for " Fletcher and the Rockpool" written by @RawlinsonJulia and published TODAY by @graffeg_books. Congrats all, and here's hoping for lovely summers by the sea for us all!
Who wants to hear the Mistress of the Macabre, the legendary #PamSmy talking about her spooky stories...? Come to #Suffolk for the amazing @DogEaredArts Children's Book Festival for "Haunted Hideaways" and meet Pam on July 2nd at 3pm. Tickets: https://t.co/DXuKIkJmYd
@BarbaraEvaV @nicolakidsbooks @CHennighan Yes! Exactly! I suppose language is evolving with social media, and I’m just a dinosaur!
#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by @brian_wildsmith for “Little Polly Flinders sat among the cinders”, from his 1964 Mother Goose collection. Resplendent colour, and characterful texture as always. Amazing how he can turn something small & domestic into a piece of dramatic theatre!
#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by @PJLynchArt for “The Selfish Giant” from “Oscar Wilde - Stories For Children” (1990). A gorgeous edition of some favourite tales illustrated with PJ’s customary attention to detail - from costume and character to the Botticelli-like flowers!
#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is BACK with one final #LGBTHM22 post - an illustration by me, for “Mouse and Mole - A Fresh Start” by Joyce Dunbar (2020). I adore drawing these two loving animals. Are they gay? Joyce once shrugged & said, “I don’t know - maybe…”
#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Arnold Lobel for “Frog and Toad are Friends” (1970). If there is a more tender, clever, philosophical and touching pair in picture-books, I’ve yet to find them. Lobel’s pond-weed tinted art, and gentle line-work is perfection. Posted for #LGBTHM22
#BookIllustrationOfTheDay is by Sybille von Olfers, for The Story of the Snow Children (1906). Von Olfers was a German nun who also taught art and created books with charming, art nouveau illustrations and imaginative tales. A curious, bewitching book.
