Why would anyone make decisions...
when it’s much more fun to draft revisions?
Today's #ScreenshotSaturday, toying with the idea of super-soft textures for the "flat" areas as opposed to pure color.
I think the idea would need a ton of work to refine it but I do enjoy how dreamlike it makes things, like 80's soft-focus, without ruining the pixelart..
Nothing to see here!
Everything is working exactly as intended.
@SirSpaceAnchor Haha, it's all good. It's honestly on my list of "not very well resolved" items. I've actually tried a few different approaches, including this more "clod" texture - it needs to be subtle no matter what, as we're not making Chrono Trigger, but too little detail looks pasted. 🤔
@JiskeyJasket Ha, glad you're enjoying it! And yes the more finished assets have a lot of fun texture play.
Careful what you zoom on tho. Most new stuff like the flowers starts out totally trash, just big-brush blobbies, and gets refined over a few cycles once I decide I want to keep it ;)
I am a simple millennial:
If there's no pink, what's the freaking point?
(Flowers won't appear in every map or season but they will add some nice variety where the appear).
@RhlPixels Very nice!
I can still feel with my whole arm how deceptively "simple" this classic sailor twist pose is. Really hard to get the balance right, and I think you nailed it :)
Grass, stone and soil now obey seasonal palette swaps, while the new evergreens are, well, evergreen!
(They still change color to complement the other foliage, but are separately controlled)
That's not what pine trees look like but I'm working with a trackpad and this shit has to start somewhere 😅
