@LeeshaHannigan Oh, and here are some images of my work:
What do you do to experience tranquility?
I intentionally looked for colors and motifs I found soothing to incorporate into this piece: icy blues, pinks, bright yellows, undulating curves, pearlescent shell-forms and languid cloud blankets all embodied the feeling I sought.
Hi! My name is Philip Byers. I'm an independent artist creating a series of surreal and fantastical landscapes I call The Else Lands! You can check out more of my work at https://t.co/010HiX1Lmc or support the project at https://t.co/GCX0QE9iKM.
What are your dreams?
Tower of Dreams was meant to evoke a sense of wistfulness and wonder. Across an ocean and suspended amidst the clouds, it represents a longing for the beauties and discoveries that lie beyond the horizon.
Have you set any goals for yourself this year? One of mine is to finish a painting a month. This one has been moving at a decent clip and has helped me to recognize some pitfalls I often stumble into that slow me down. I've got a good feeling about this one :)
How do you see the world? Is it wild and mysterious, or a system just waiting to be decoded?
I go back and forth between imagining the world as a place of untamed magic and an elaborate system. In this case, two giant towers bring forth stars and nebulae to bejewel the heavens.
World Engine, 2019
What is a World Engine? What does it do?
Lately I've been super into a sense of cosmic grandeur. Roiling clouds, jewel-like stars, otherworldly landscapes and looming megaliths are just intoxicating and for me evoke the sublime. What do find sublime?
What do you think awaits beyond this portal?
One of my favorite things to do is tantalize my audience with wonders just out of view. I love the sense of melancholy brought on by knowing that the beauties we are imagining lie just out of reach and are forever unattainable.
Where do all these doors lead?
The original version of this piece had a straight causeway leading to the nexus of portals, until my wife suggested looking up the Snakway from Dragonball Z. The rest is history.
