New books through the post today. An emotional tour de force. All beautifully constructed. All affecting. The kind of books that make the heart ache but gently help repair it again through perfect partnership of text and image. Many thanks for the recommendations Mat, Zoe & Simon
@smithsmm @spinningzoo @Mat_at_Brookes @BookIslandBooks @f33lthesun @MrJTostevin @SiskMiss @DamsonEd @RebeccaLucas @BrianLiesbooks Both remind me of this. Think you and Mat convinced me to pick up a copy last year. Two sentences. So much said.
@EmilyEatsBooks @imaginecentre @nikkigamble Pleasure. My book basket is now well stocked for future purchases. Think I’ll need a library soon to hold them all.
@TeresaCremin @SadiePhillips @ReadingExplorer @whatSFSaid @liz_loch @MissC19931230 @charlotteraby @one_to_read @WritingRocks_17 @joanna_hasler @cazzash @MaryMw401 @son1bun @RoSeabrook @curlykath @RogMcDonald @Mrs_OBoyle @McgreevyClare @nicolakidsbooks Must credit @PHoracek’s wonderful illustrations too. They bring the whole book alive. Love the hummingbird and giraffe hidden underneath the dust jacket!
@MrCJ248 @PaulWat5 @MissSMerrill Can I jump on the Literary bandwagon, Paul? Creating a unit in the summer term for Y5 using ‘Caleb’, ‘The Watertower’, its sequel ‘Beneath the Surface’ and Morpurgo’s ‘Giants Necklace’. The Reading and Viewimg book by Swaney is pretty useful Chris. May want to check it out.
Finally got round to reading this beautiful graphic novel by @scottmccloud full of love, loss & loneliness. To the person who donated a pristine copy of this to a charity bookshop, Thank You.
@RebeccaLucas @Mat_at_Brookes have you read? Made me think of 'Blankets'(Thompson, 2003)
A pleasure to hear @nicolakidsbooks read not one, but three books. A talk that focused on biodiversity, the process of writing and her latest, ‘The day war came’; all underpinned by the thread of nature that runs through lots of her work. #picturebooks #nature #RR__South
@AllenAndUnwin @RebeccaLucas @ReadingsBooks Any chance you’ll have a stream online? Bit of a commute for me ✈️🚊🚘 downside to being a UK lover of Tan’s work.
@Mr_K_Teacher I’d choose ‘If all the world were...’ by @Poetryjoe. Massively important to celebrate quality, authentic texts that reflect different realities than our own.
Also, as a picturebook, my secret hope is that it’ll unlock the amazing potential that texts like these have for readers.
Can't wait for the release of this from @davidjalmond and Levi Pinfold. What a perfect pairing of author and illustrator. Beautifully evocative of the northern landscape. I feel some deeply emotional writing coming from this in the Autumn term.
