Next up revising the Original Pacifica Archipelago, I've changed some colours since this early precursor. More blue less Turqouise.
There are a number of structural differences.
Left the Original (3 Years ago), Right today
Today in @BiohazardJeff Blue Planet, rebuid of the Pacifica Archipelago. Blended Wet/Arid Biomes, some DEM enhancements and now with River systems.
Colour Landscape, New Hillshade, Rivers
Et voila the final effect
Note that tiny 8% glimmer is what gives the extra reflections to the sea depths. If I remove it everything is a lot flatter (image 2 without).
It's the small things...
The next is essentially the reverse, I'm making a Screen Blend of the Shading to catch the sun reflections off the tops of hills etc.. it's tricky as it's very easy to end up with a plastic world.
Next up I use a Linear Burn Layer Blend between this and the Colour Layer. Then I fuss around with the settings including transparency to get it mostly right.
Done properly this looks sexy AF. But I'm not done.
Back onto so Blue Planet, today I uh redo an entire Island. There was a bit of a communication gap between writer and cartographer, shit happens. So I'm flattening out a big island to make way for Wetlands..as you do.
I've drawn to fuss about. This is the before.
Was thinking I would potentially need some sort of elaborate feathering/blending effect for the Arid/Wet Overlaps but between the map scale and the higher altitude colours being common I think it looks pretty good with more fuss.
I might noodle this effect to see what I can do?
