Boy do I love seeing this exact same pose & expression in every cartoon from the past 20 years

I get a chuckle every time I see it, in every other episode of every single animated series - whether it's for kids or adults

never gets old. guaranteed laugh every time. Funny stuff

these are the 3 basic art styles of Western "adult animation"

1) Family Guy
2) Family Guy w/ beady eyes & more detail
3) Family Guy w/ mutants (Big Mouth most extreme ex.)

if a new series deviates from any of these, it's considered a bold creative risk!

oh, u think these r "BAD" drawings? they're "beanmouth"? (w/e THAT is!) well, not only is CalArts style NOT "a thing" but this show's creators didn't even GO to CalArts, u feel pretty STUPID now, huh CHUD? why don't u go blow John K some more (I mean this in a non-homophobic way)

"Arthur" is a good example of what I like to call a "fake cartoon"

it's not fun to look at

it's animated, but it's not cartoony

it's not really meant to make you lol

it's there to teach children "pro-social values"

and it built its audience by attrition - on taxpayer dollars

this is a good example of character design from someone who probably grew up w/ "flat, geometric" designs of 90s & 00s shows (that were just inferior imitations of Tartakovsky & McCracken) & has now brought it up 2 modern standards by adding a beanmouth to the Picasso-like jumble

@bagenuts_ is better called Beanmouth than CalArts bc obvi u don't have 2 have been a grad 2 draw in that style, & not all grads draw that way

re: Spongebob, look at variety of character designs in cast compared to cast of Simpsons & Beanmouth protags...show not guilty of lazy char. design

@SoulPatchanBuff I know it's not a perfect analogy but it's the principle of the the thing

& Matt Groening's name is still hilariously affixed to tons of official Simpsons images as if he's single-handedly drawing everything, like people used to assume Walt Disney did

so do all these professional Simpsons geeks just have to pretend the show retired with dignity around 1999 or what
