@Frosty2495 the virgin "adult cartoon" "sexy" woman v. the CHAD online cartoonist sexy woman
(I don't doubt Rick & Morty has artists who could draw more like the ex. on the right if they were ALLOWED to, but they're not!)
"flat" / "retro" / "modern" style still popular bc even more than doing "gross" or "wacky" 90s style per Ren & Stimpy, it was superficially easy to copy - just use lots of geometric shapes & sharp angles. easy to animate cheaply using vectors in Flash, too- so even better, right?
@Mo_Hakim1 u can see thought process of most "flat" cartoons is: "just use lots of simple geometric shapes & sharp angles, like Powerpuff Girls & Dexter's Laboratory, will b stylish & easy to animate." even 'simple' style takes great skill to do WELL & not just look POINTY & UGLY & AWKWARD!
@Mo_Hakim1 ...50s modern / flat style was DECEPTIVE because even tho drawings were SIMPLE, they were based on high skilled, solid foundation of classic animation principles, form & construction. whole "geometric" era of 2000s animation is ignorant inferior superficial copy
nasty "cartoon sitcom" subspecies is obvious cash-in on live-action show/trend, where live action ripoff would b too obvious / embarrassing. "oh is Sopranos but sitcom"
these more easily aimed at family audience & r often Canadian (they love 2 imitate what US doing 5 minute ago)
the only "cynical" thing about this nontroversy is that expressions like these are considered "wild takes" by modern standards
mostly what makes them "memey" is that they look like amateurish webcomic expressions. Tails looks like friggin' ctrl+alt+del https://t.co/tHtj9Uncfl
*BEEP* "Hey, Steven! It's (Cartoon Writer.) Um, I don't know if you saw this, but I wrote a little...heh, heh...CAMEO for you on (90s WB cartoon) and thought you'd get a kick out of it! Sent a tape of it to your secretary this morning. By the way...I don't JUST write cartoons..."
@Frosty2495 I really like this DeeDee because it's a good Western character design but she's been subtly made more Japanese and it's a great drawing of her
here's good example of how Japanese artists are better classically trained - can still add FORM, CONSTRUCTION & APPEAL to deliberately amateurish American character designs:
specifically, Brendon from Home Movies. Just look at this back view of him, stunning
