My work on SegaSonic arcade over the last two weeks has been confirming that the Western localized graphics are not used in some disabled code somewhere that can be easily re-enabled. They aren't. They're entirely unused. So now I'm working on patching them in...
We figure out how game code works by repeatedly punching it in the face to see what breaks where. This violent form of trial and error occasionally generates some truly cursed screenshots.

I haven't given much attention to the Sega ST-V dev bios dumps, but I played around with them a bit today. The text that scrolls at the bottom is pretty fast, but it says "The future of ST-V rests upon our work and your work." Inspiring!
Figured out the dev menus in Mach Breakers. This is particularly exciting as it shows how those menus in Namco Classics Collection are supposed to work when called properly...
Hey you know what's really difficult? Trying to do a disassembly on an architecture that isn't present in either IDA Pro or Ghidra. Anyway, the stage select function works in SegaSonic arcade, looks like there's more left over in the proto too...
