Shobu responds by summoning Bolshack Dragon, and uses Dio Raios to break another shield, leaving Tooru just two attacks away from defeat. But Tooru summons a second Aqua Guard: with two out he can stop both attacks next turn, and Hulcus and Fang break Shobu's remaining shields.

Tooru's finally made a negative trade with Shobu, but he still has the 7 mana Dual Fang and Bronze-Arm Tribe helped build up. With it he summons Aqua Guard to block, Aqua Hulcus to draw, and Silver Fang to attack. All of them are capable of evolution.

But one of those shields is the Shield Trigger Tornado Flame, and Shobu uses it to destroy Tooru's other creature. On his turn Shobu summons Borg and Dio Raios, whose effect forces each player to choose their own creature to destroy: Tooru only has Dual Fang to choose from.

This is their first time seeing an evolution: a card that can promote from a creature of the same race and bypass summoning sickness to attack the same turn it's placed. Paladin attacks Vorg, but Shobu casts Magma Gazer to buff Horvath enough to destroy Paladin in retaliation.

On Shobu's side, he's hitting all his key creatures on-curve and playing a fast rush. Meanwhile Tooru starts by ramping up extra mana with Bronze-Arm Tribe and getting out the cost 2 Aqua Vehicle, which he then uses as the base for the evolution card Crystal Paladin.

This is the best duel in the series so far, and the studio uses some interesting techniques to convey it. Minor plays like charging and tapping mana are presented by overlaying animated panels on the main frame, making it resemble the DM manga more while being easier to animate.

Tooru and Shobu arrive just in time as the match is about to be cancelled, and Shobu calls for a "fair and square" duel and asks to shuffle. (Echoing a moment with Knight from episode 1.) Tooru is conflicted; he needs to obey the Temple's orders, but wants to use his own deck.

Now Jamira has both Rekuta and Shobu bound, but Knight intervenes, asking why Jamira did this. He says it's their fault he lost, and if he keeps losing like this he'll have no right to be a duelist. Knight counters that so long as his heart wants to duel, he's a duelist.

The Master believes Tooru's deck is insufficient, and sent him this so he could defeat Shobu. But Tooru isn't having it--he intends to win with the deck he made himself. The Temple member warns him that disobeying the Master will not make him the "strongest duelist in the world."

Rekuta goes looking for him, and finds Shobu all tied up. Jamira says he may have lost, but he's taking Shobu down with him, and steals his deck. In the arena hall, neither competitor has shown up; the Temple member is offering Tooru a copy of Hakuoh's deck to use for the finals.
