New at #TetZoo: Shrews of the World! #Shrews are amazing, and this is but a brief introduction ... https://t.co/mSfqfsjVbd #mammals #evolution #biology
@dh_paleoart No, it's a mystery river dolphin. But you can see Trunko here if you look hard enough...
New at #TetZoo: Cloudrunners and Other Cloud Rats of the Philippines, an article on a very special of giant, fluffy, tree-dwelling rats. Definitely one for #rodent fans :) #mammals #rodents https://t.co/CD3RwHm8x8
New at #TetZoo: GIANT FURRY-TAILED #RATS OF THE PHILIPPINES. Yes, the cloud rats or cloudrunners, a spectacular group of 'Old Endemic' murids .. https://t.co/CD3RwHm8x8 #rodents #mammals
One thing the book DOES NOT SAY (and yet is often accused of saying, clearly by people who HAVEN'T READ IT) is "look at all the silly mistakes palaeontologists are making, ha ha ha!". #AllYesterdays #palaeoart #paleoart
This is explained in the 2012 book ALL YESTERDAYS (by @thejohnconway @cmkosemen and me) where we wonder how living animals MIGHT be reconstructed by INTELLIGENT CREATURES WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN DAY ANIMALS. Buy the book, it's a #palaeoart must-have.. https://t.co/Rt3EFHVGbl
The #AllYesterdays hippo is doing the rounds again. There are CAVEATS to this idea that are usually missed. The monstrous reconstructions are meant to apply to HYPOTHETICAL cases where those doing the reconstruction are unaware of soft tissue data and ignorant of mammal anatomy.
@CryptoLoren I wonder if they were inspired by what we illustrated in the 2012 book All Yesterdays (pic by @cmkosemen).
Part 8 wraps things up with a list of conclusions. And that's it. It took a while to pull all of this together and I didn't mean it to drag on as long as it did. Comments are still appearing. And the idea that the whole series might be put into physical print is out there...
... which is basically the idea that big #dinosaurs did not have continent-wide ranges (which is what we'd predict based on big #mammals), but were instead more provincial. This idea has been promoted by several workers but also heavily contested - it's a fascinating debate.
