Joker outmaneuvers Batman's car! But of course, Batman actually leapt out of the car just in time. Joker gloats a little and then goes back to the Deck where he finds that Robin has been captured and the Cards have found the Batcommunicator. Uh, so.....
He and Robin come back in costume and hijinks ensue followed by Batman chasing the Joker into cars and then they race and....
Later, Bruce hits the deck of the Deck to light a cigarette (40s comics, wow) and overhears Queenie and the crew talking about the Joker. He gets caught and tossed overboard much to Queenie's chagrin. Bruce pretends to die, but actually goes home to dry off and Batman up.
Okay so Bruce goes onto the ship because he just thinks it's suspicious for some reason, and there he meets and flirts with Queenie who, of course, is into him. And she's a pretty smart cookie, that Queenie.
Okay so Joker, Queenie, Clubsy and Jack come together with card base codenames and call themselves the Four Cards - their plan is to pump rich people for info while gambling and then steal their stuff. Two months later, their gambling ship "The Deck" debuts and makes the papers.
Our femme fatale introduces everyone - her name is Queenie, but I just look at her and think of Punchline.
Joker isn't dead, of course - he just fell into the sewer system and swam until it emptied into the bay. Then he flagged down a boat that, fortunately for him, is full of smugglers looking for someone to help them find a new criminal career since smuggling is hard during the war.
Well okay Batman is calling to me so I'm back to this. Beginning with Batman #5, which I believe has the first appearance of Bruce's next love interest, Linda.
Thinking about that time someone accused me of never having read any Batman comics.
