MRD-VP-1/1 was the first relatively complete skull known for Australopithecus anamensis. Its similarities with later species like Au. africanus and Paranthropus may suggest that such traits evolved in the common ancestor of all bipedal hominins.

Happy The earliest fossils of Ursus americanus are from the early Pleistocene (Irvingtonian). Researchers think they arrived in North America during a dispersal event from Eurasia. By the late Pleistocene (Rancholabrean) they were widespread.

It's Today we've chosen the Punishment of Ixion!

This stunning fresco was found in the House of the Vettii in Mercury is in the centre between Juno, Iris and Vulcanus. Nephele is at his feet and Ixion is tied to the wheel.

The MLD 40 jaw is one of the larger ones attributed to Australopithecus africanus. Raymond Dart thought that it was a victim of cannibalism, but it lacks the evidence that we look for today to identify this behavior.

Headshot commission completed for of their rooster arcanus. This was a fun one to get back to, and after not touching a pencil for a few weeks for the first time since I remember, I feel refreshed and full of energy.

The distal femur of an early like Australopithecus africanus is among the most humanlike parts of their anatomy. The angulation between the femoral shaft and condyles reflects habitual bipedal gait.

Australopithecus anamensis is the earliest known of its genus. Its diet seems to have concentrated on woodland foods more than the later Au. afarensis or Au. africanus, within a habitat with mixed trees and C4 grasses.

Other fish visible in this drawing are a gar (Obaichthys africanus) and a polypterid. Of the polypterid all we have are two jaw fragments, and one of those isn't even from the Kem Kem. Phylogenetic bracketing is a paleontologist's best friend.

The Mountain Goat (Oreamnos americanus), also known as the Rocky Mountain Goat, is the largest of the mammals found in North American high-altitude habitats which may exceed elevations of 13,000 ft. Color pencil and ink study from my sketchbook.

The discovery of the MLD 18 mandible in 1953 followed the sorting and movement of more than 5000 tons of miners' dump material. The fossil comes from one of the older adult individuals known for Australopithecus africanus.
