Was going through the garage and getting rid of some college paintings I wasn't feeling anymore, but couldn't part with this one. The only painting of mine someone offered to buy was one I never finished - a study of John Howe's Smaug. Maybe someday.

but! they also compliment the images we already have of existing characters! this bad boy is recognisably the dark lord on his dark throne, but draws from nasmith and howe and taylor, so it feels like a natural evolution of the character's look

That’s an interesting take. Here are Rupert, Peg Hughes and Ruperta Hughes (Howe). A pretty strong likeness I’d say. Rupert is said to have given Peg around £20K’s worth of jewellery during their relationship - that’s probably around £2.25 million in today’s money.
