On the second voyage of HMS Beagle, Charles Darwin collected thousands of plants, animals, rocks and fossils, including 13 species of fossil mammals. Four of these were species of ground sloth. Find out more about Darwin's ground sloths https://t.co/F1K1TueNRj
Riuri - ammonite
" Ammonites are excellent index fossils, and linking the rock layer in which a particular species or genus is found to specific geologic time periods is often possible. Their fossil shells usually take the form of planispirals. "
@_Peachki_ You know her already but here's Bea!!! She's a chihuahua / mudi mix and she loves her partner and her friends so much! She's really into natural history- especially dinosaurs and other extinct creatures :3 Loves collecting fossils, bones, fur, etc! Loves the color pink too!
Our scientists @Museum_Cardiff study shells, pollen, diatoms, marine worms, plants, mosses, seaweeds, fossils, minerals #InternationalWomensDay2022 #IWD2022

@JusttheZooofUs Hi, I'm Danna, I write books about nature for adults and kids and I like to draw! Cephalopods are my fave, but I'm also wild for worms, slugs, isopods, fossils, larvae of all kinds . . . This is such an awesome thread!
Here's the raw pieces for appreciation!
Uncovering what it seems a tangled soup of fossils, Pokemon separated by million of years, together up to our days. After pack it up, to the expectative on next years for conclusions of many Pkmn Professors and figures like Lenora and Cara
As for #dinosaur mating trace fossils, for 'Dinosaurs Without Bones' I illustrated possible (speculative) diagrams of track patterns representing such behaviors in theropods (L) & sauropods (R), in which the beasts with 2 backs would result in 4 & 6 tracks. #ichnology 2/2
@monlitboar I actually attempted to draw it once! After looking at some actual fossils, Areadbhar really did look like the fin of a plesiosaurus 🤔
Loog actually acknowledging where his crest came from is interesting! Although i do wonder if the church was okay with that...
September 23, 1832, a young Charles #Darwin recovers his 1st South American #fossils at Punta Alta, Buenos Aires. Among other fossils, he recovers also remains of Toxodon, an enigmatic mammal https://t.co/1tVaCUiQJp 🦴

@sim_kern And the fact that.. ya know.. you get to space using earth's Fossils, drink earth's water, consume earth's grown food, earth's abundant oxygen, clothing, minerals, technology, etc.
Why avoid the obvious similarities between these fossils, especially the NR-2 mandible, and Neandertals, particularly Krapina? That relationship is the interesting one, with clear relevance to paleoclimate changes. Nesher Ramla may be a likely Krapina source population.
the rules are basically like, evolutionary properties through time equaling whether a gijinka is more human or more pokemon. fossils, ghosts, man-made, and legendary pokemon are the most common monster-like--rarely some common pokes are tho (examples here)
The oving truck rental company U-haul does a very fun thing where they have giant graphics on their trucks with facts about each US state / Canadian province. Many highlight geology and fossils, and then for Vermont, there's Champ. Any thoughts on their depiction of it, @TetZoo?
CRAB WEEK CONTINUES
Mermay Day 16 - Horseshoe Crab!
Living fossils, these ancient arthropods like to scuttle around the intertidal zone of shallow waters. A stray breaker may flip them over - be kind and pick it up by the edge of the shell to set it right again.
I ❤️ marsupials, especially weird fossils, but I can't deny they aren't as diverse as placentals. Our new@RSocPublishing paper, out today & led by @grumpyDrFabre, uses jaw shape to show they also evolve more slowly, likely due to developmental constraints https://t.co/8GbDV2GarN
