When we took the display glass off Tylosaurus 2 weeks ago, we also photographed the drop-dead gorgeous that accompanies it, in addition to studying the Stunning to behold up close...

Second, the dentaries (tooth-bearing bones of the lower jaw) are relatively short compared to other mosasaurs (i.e., Tylosaurus), much like in today’s shell-crushing lizards, incl. the caiman lizard (Dracaena) & Nile monitor (Varanus)!

First day in ~2 weeks that I haven't felt like my brain's in a blender (thank you, Mystery Illness™) - relaxed by building up a folder of lovely for future posts! 🦎💕

Isn't it crazy that despite Mosasaurus being the most famous mosasaur, Tylosaurus has gotten wayyy more exposure over the years.

Hittin' the hot (brine) springs: Styxosaurus excitedly rambles on about his workday with coworker Tylosaurus as an elderly Archelon listens in.

Tylosaurus just wants to relax.

Another CSP test: I wanted to try something 'softer' and I guess it turned out okay.

The name "Tylosaurus" itself references the rostrum, meaning "knob-lizard," as does the name of the type species (the first one named), T. proriger: "proriger" = "prow-bearing."

Just a couple of seaway buddies - Tylosaurus and Dolichorhynchops!

Made this weeks ago after my first visit to the Sternberg Museum (but couldn't post due to lack of Internet service) as a quick CSP brush test; I usually color in GIMP but I figured I should actually learn CSP.

The reason I think Tylosaurus is seriously far more EPIC than any other mosasaur can be summed up with a ton of older art that features it as the all-encompassing leviathan of the Western Interior Seaway and now we find that even big mosasaurs could vibe upriver! Missing paleoart
