for the fun of it, a modeled low poly with hand painted texture pirate coin. Eevee viewport screenshot (same painted texture using color ramp to add material effects. 532 triangles (lot of a coin :P ) 256 x 256 texture.

Here we go~ Used your "Viewport" tab color as a base. Not many options to work with (2nd img) + couldn't change some things (mostly the vivid blue stuff). Also had to pick from a limited palette (3rd img) for the channels/arranger track, which didn't have many purple options 👿

If you don't have Zbrush, you can try and look at them in something like Blender, however I'm yet to figure out a way to be able to actually render matcaps outside of the viewport shading 🤷‍♀️🤔 But at the very least it should give you a good idea of how this whole thing works

If you're using Solid viewport mode, you could check 'In front' under the 'Viewport Display' settings of the retopo mesh, and use a transparent color. That way you can see the retopo mesh 'on top' of the basemesh in edit mode. I hope this was what you were looking for!
