#pico8
I’ve been struggling to figure out what I should print the marquee for my #pico8 arcade cabinet on and I just learned about backlit film this morning. Sent the design over to a local printer to hopefully have the new marquee by tomorrow.
Testing #pico8 character designs. It's difficult to make a design that works in 8x8. I think I'll try combining head and body from 2 8x8 sprites. Though I think also to separate hair and head to have more flexibility (hair styles / helmets / hats, etc).
Here's the initial version of the boot screen for my #pico8 arcade cabinet. It's a combination of sprites from the PICO-8 postcard image and @JUSTIN_CYR's food sprites (https://t.co/mickcJ1dmO). Eventually the plan is to swap the sprites for ones from my own games.
Sorted out my marquee for the #pico8 arcade cabinet. Now working on the boot screen while I wait for the final coat of paint to dry. Almost there!
And it is done @Peter_shirley 's "#RayTracing in One Weekend" implemented on the #pico8.
I'll put the code up on the @lexaloffle BBS soon. So many things to improve. Working out a better colour palette and colour distance mapping for a start.
Some of the "promo" art I've done for my pico8 games #clubpicocho #pico8
Some people say you haven't really written a #raytracer until you have a glass ball sitting between two metallic balls on a checkerboard surface and I can understand what they mean.
Kind of blown away by how good this looks on the #pico8
ScandiVania - a #pico8 concept
It was a fun exercise with pico8 palette and resolution limitations.
Made this back in spring but didn't manage to share.

Rendered some more #pico8 balls and donuts.
For no particularly good reason.
Hmm, Hmmmmm and 3 times hmmmmm
Left is the reference python #raytracer at 4 samples per pixel colourmapping to #pico8 palette. Right is the actual pico8 version. I feel these visual clues should make it super obvious what is wrong in the pico version but I just can't grok it.
Same scene rendered in my reference #Python #RayTracer and my current #pico8 RayTracer. A prize for anyone who can tell which one is which
The left and right balls are reflective.
My #pico8 take on @Peter_shirley 's "#RayTracing in one weekend" continues.
I absolutely have a bug somewhere though, the shadows are all going to the left when they should be perfectly centred.
James wrote this amazing vector drawing tool in Pico8 that allowed me to create these, and export a string we could use to pull up each portrait without using a up all the tile data. 💙
