I’ve been struggling to figure out what I should print the marquee for my arcade cabinet on and I just learned about backlit film this morning. Sent the design over to a local printer to hopefully have the new marquee by tomorrow.

Made this viking/dwarf guy in the color palette. Have to say, working with only 16 colors really forces you to think outside of the box in regards to coloring.

Testing character designs. It's difficult to make a design that works in 8x8. I think I'll try combining head and body from 2 8x8 sprites. Though I think also to separate hair and head to have more flexibility (hair styles / helmets / hats, etc).

Here's the initial version of the boot screen for my arcade cabinet. It's a combination of sprites from the PICO-8 postcard image and 's food sprites (https://t.co/mickcJ1dmO). Eventually the plan is to swap the sprites for ones from my own games.

Sorted out my marquee for the arcade cabinet. Now working on the boot screen while I wait for the final coat of paint to dry. Almost there!

I'll put the code up on the BBS soon. So many things to improve. Working out a better colour palette and colour distance mapping for a start.

Hmm, Hmmmmm and 3 times hmmmmm

Left is the reference python at 4 samples per pixel colourmapping to palette. Right is the actual pico8 version. I feel these visual clues should make it super obvious what is wrong in the pico version but I just can't grok it.

The left and right balls are reflective.

My take on 's "#RayTracing in one weekend" continues.

I absolutely have a bug somewhere though, the shadows are all going to the left when they should be perfectly centred.

James wrote this amazing vector drawing tool in Pico8 that allowed me to create these, and export a string we could use to pull up each portrait without using a up all the tile data. 💙
