I wanted to make a quick lineup using the symmetry tool in Paint Tool SAI 2. That tool is a really good way to speedily hash out character designs.

These are my OCs. I wanna make another lineup eventually with more characters, and without the symmetry tool.

For me, I start by sketching an outline on a separate layer. Then I paint using other layers (1 layer for skin, 1 for hair in front, 1 for tentacles, etc.).

If I need to refine edges, I use the eraser tool.

Basically, I'm painting the picture, not drawing it.

The line art is done with a pen-tool. No photo for this one, it was freehand, but the technique is the same, clean graphic lines and fill. If you use a half-transparency layer mask you can produce some very cool stuff with it
