I've been experimenting with shaders in Blender, trying to achieve an anime/2D-esque look.

Not perfect yet, but I think the head is starting to look pretty good!

Now, I am under the impression that, by monkeying around with shaders in Unity, I can palettify this character, as well as add glowy bits and lighting. But this remains untested, and will likely remain so until at least tomorrow, probably later.

One of my favorite parts about this series has just been seeing how much I can push around my periodic sin waves to create hell-like landscapes. Behind the marcher is 3 stretched spheres to help maintain the composition.

Ray-marching is so exciting to me! I’m exploring Fractal Brownian Motion and more complex lighting. I’m thinking about going back to basics soon though. There seems to be a boundless amount of things to learn.

Geoamorphism - 03

In this final piece the world shifts, while also looping through an additional dimension. The definition part of the look is marching through an aggressive polar log lens. Loving the rgb displacement in this one.

i tried a new hair rendering style and switched up how i paint i think i like it mayhaps.
i got lazy with the background i literally just searched up "minecraft world with shaders" and just took the first one.

More early build screenshots in the US Super Mario Galaxy 2 guide! In Sweet Mystery Galaxy, this platform here has a reddish pink color. In the guide screenshots, it's light blue instead! Removing the material shaders from the model in the final game brings back its blue color.

Tossing some shaders on a Marauder II from Mechwarrior Online. These models look so great even with just basic shaders! This is Principled BSDF with some extra AO in Eevee. Will try some fancier stuff and NPR.

Yee im in maya atm just with surface shaders for block colour but I think ramp shaders will be the way to go! Ideally id like to have block shadows with a bit of patterned dithering at the edges so will see what I can do!

I just wanted to show what good shader work can do on a character. This is all thanks to who did the magnificent work on Laethe. I learned a ton from looking over her model

We kept fiddling with the dark art of shaders and eventually manage to wrangle it so lanterns actually give off a nice warm instead of just being a cutout 😅☀️

Since I'm already here wasting time:
recently I've been experimenting with shaders that apply palettes to shadows and lights, with interesting results.

(and if it can be seen through the compression, snapping lights and shadows to texels)
