In Japan, Buddha’s birthday is celebrated on April 8. On this day, Buddhist temples place the statue of Baby Buddha in a small shrine decorated with flowers and visitors can pour sweet tea over it.

Japanese woodblock prints by Iwao Akiyama, an artist known for distinctive prints of owls and cats. Akiyama was born in 1921 in Takeda, Ōita Prefecture and studied drawing under the direction of a Buddhist monk during his childhood.

One of his design is based on Golden Winged Garuda, Mekhila, one of the Buddhist twelve guardian yakshas representing a rooster in Chinese zodiac. Hence, reflected in his constellation, Alatus Nemeseos, and his tattoo.
