040. Clawgrip
Wart used his magic to turn a harmless crab into the boulder-lobbing crustacean you see before you. He sits atop a hill, unaware that these rocks can hurt him too. In Doki Doki Panic, a Mouser rematch filled his place as a boss, but now that fight 🦀is gone!🦀
🦋
038. Whale
The first appearance of a whale in the Mario franchise is in SMB2, where they act as ground below otherwise dangerous jumps. The occasional water spouts can be used to gain height. They're not exactly harmful enemies, but it's not like they're trying to help out.
🦝
036. Flurry
Many of these small, simple snow creatures form in the cold and icy areas of Subcon. They chase after anyone they see, building up speed and momentum by shuffling their feet as fast as they can. Changing direction on slippery ice is a big ask for anyone, though.
🦋
035. Bob-omb
Whether they're tossed from talons or fired from cannons, these wandering explosives aren't always the safest to be around. Activating one can mean the end if you don't get it away from you somehow. The pink Bob-omb Buddies from Mario 64 are safe, though
🦝
033. Porcupo
Not many people remember the first blue hedgehog that Mario encountered. While small and slow, their pointy quills prevent them from being jumped on. When coming in groups of two or more in the right circumstances, they can serve as pretty good obstacles.
🦝
032. Ostro
These giant birds, while unable to fly, are an easy and fast method of transportation. Some Shy Guys have domesticated them for that purpose and charge forward. You can hitch a ride yourself if you're able to toss the rider away, and I doubt the bird will notice.
🦋
029. Panser
These dancing desert plants are able to shoot fire out of their flower. Red ones shoot twice at a time, green and grey ones move around and shoot straight up, and pink and blue ones chase their prey while shooting. Not always the best centerpiece for tables.
🦋
027. Mouser
The phrase "quiet as a mouse" doesn't even begin to describe this rodent. Serving as one of the world bosses in Subcon, Mouser rocks cool sunglasses and an arsenal of bombs. Not even he's safe from the explosions, so you can throw them right back if you're quick.
🦝
024. Trouter
The rivers near Subcon's waterfalls are home to many small and energetic fish. They just leap upwards out of the water, and fall right back down. Maybe it's a way to hunt aerial prey, or taking their version of a bath? We'll ask about it next time we find one.
🦝
023. Snifit
This type of Shy Guy has a different, darker mask than usual, with an extended nozzle used to shoot bullets. Along with Shy Guys, they've become common in the Yoshi games. There's one notirious Snifit from Paper Mario that hides in a bush and waits patiently…
