022. Beezo
This quick, winged creature is a variant of Shy Guy which charges forwards and wields a pitchfork. They're called Shy Aways in Super Mario RPG, and fittingly tend to flee when a battle starts. They also like to garden, and water hostile plants that fight for them.
🦝
021. Pidgit
Previously having been helpless, flightless birds, King Wart granted them fast magic carpets and (allegedly) the power to cause nightmares. You can still just hijack the carpet for yourself. It'd probably be mad about it, but what's it gonna do? Fly back on?
🦋
020. Birdo
These fashionable dinosaurs can shoot eggs out of their large snouts, and serve as mid-bosses in many of SMB2's levels. One in particular has made herself at home in the franchise through spin-offs, and seems to have hit it off with another dinosaur really well :o
🦋
019. Hoopster
Have you ever tried to climb magic floating vines before? That's what these funny-looking ladybugs specialize in. They can be found moving along many of the beanstalks, ropes, and trees scattered throughout Subcon. Who knows if they ever get down from there.
🦝
018. Ninji
As enemies, these ninja stars usually stay in one place and jump high into the air. In their Doki Doki Panic days, there was a rumor that they haunted the dreams of gamers… but now they wait in Mario Maker 2's speedrun mode as harmless ghosts to race against.
🦋
017. Tweeter
(Not to be confused with Twitter.)
This masked bird is classified as flightless, but not entirely; it can flap its bat-like wings to hop off the ground and bounce. Maybe one day, we could see its full potential… if it ever appears in more than one game.
🦝
016. Shy Guy
These guys debuted in what the West knows as Super Mario Bros 2. They've made many appearances since then, most notably as the main basic enemy in the Yoshi series. No one knows what's behind that mask… or why it's… s-staring at us like that...
🦋
015. Bowser's Brother
Not much is known about Bowser's younger, bluer brother, but he's probably a higher-up in the Koopa Troop. His only appearance is in Lost Levels, guarding 8-4 while Bowser waits later in D-4. Hmm… maybe the Koopalings are *his* kids?
🦝
013. Bowser
The main antagonist of the entire franchise, King Koopa himself! This awesome fire-breathing beast has kidnapped Princess Peach at least 20 times, kicking off a new adventure to save her for Mario and Luigi every time. He also happens to look amazing in a tuxedo.
🦝
011. Buzzy Beetle
Buzzy Beetles are the less agressive relatives of Spinies (and haven't been in any 3D platformers for some reason). Their shells have no spikes, but are invulnerable to fire. Buzzies walk on celings more frequently than Spinies, although both are able to.
