#NowWatching Masaaki Yuasa’s MIND GAME. I’ve been hearing such great things about Yuasa’s new film INU-OH so I thought I’d revisit this uniquely stylised and insanely existential mind-bender from 2004. It’s the sort of anime that’s really hard to explain but it is amazing #anime

I’ve got my weekend pass for this year’s @LEAFilmFest and the excitement starts building right now! They have put together one of the most diverse and impressive collections of brand new East Asian cinema I’ve seen in years. The only problem now is how to fit it all in #LEAFF22

Wow! This film is unreal! It is pure mood! I won’t pretend I understood it all but I was completely gripped from the very beginning and it really moved me in the end. The gothic architecture and the dark, ominous, unsafe feeling throughout gives it a very specific vibe I loved!

Absolutely stunning! It’s interesting that I mentioned Makoto Shinkai because the similarities here are in so much more than just the art direction! The story & the dialogue delivery & the structure all feel akin to Shinkai’s stuff. Even the score felt beautifully familiar 🥰

As Yasuomi Umetsu was key animator on everything from AKIRA to GRAVE OF RHE FIREFLIES the actual art style and animation is exceptional. It has reinvigorated my desire to check out more of these mid90s OVAs so any recommendations would be welcome. #anime #ova
