7/25/72: Marvel relaunches JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY as a horror title (sister book: CHAMBER OF CHILLS) with an eye to classic adaptations and some great original material, but - pro forma - it soon becomes all reprint. This issue also includes the freaky Englehart/Reese "House."

7/25/72: DOC SAVAGE launched a brief period of pulp hero revival in comics (Shadow, Avenger), and after a mere 8 issues it would become a B&W mag. Ross Andru drew a combo of a younger Doc but with James Bama's skullcap hair. Future issues were more blatantly 30s period pieces.

Some 18 years ago I had the opportunity to buy the original art for TZ but I had just moved to Chicago and couldn't come up with the $1500 asking price. Regret it to this day.

Writer Cyril M. Kornbluth was born OTD in 1923. Sometimes working in collaboration with his friend Frederik Pohl, he wrote such SF classics as THE SPACE MERCHANTS and "The Marching Morons." Acknowledged to be an eccentric genius, he died of a heart attack at only 34.
