Cordwainer Smith (Paul Myron Linebarger) was born OTD in 1913. His SF tales took place in a disorienting future history governed by "The Instrumentality of Mankind." Writing was a hobby; he was an East Asia expert, and psychological warfare was his field as well. He died at 53.
