My Favourite C64 Tie-in Games No.6
Platoon
Ocean
1987
With the coder of the awful Cobra at the helm, my hopes weren’t high for Platoon, but it turned out to be absolutely brilliant. Excellent graphics & sound & varied & engrossing mini-game action make this a superb title.
My Favourite C64 Tie-in Games No.7
Rambo

Rambo is a fun run and gun game with a cool sandbox-y feel. Nice graphics, addictive gameplay and an astounding Martin Galway soundtrack make this action-packed Commie-killing-Commando-clone hugely enjoyable.
My Favourite C64 Tie-in Games No.9
Spy Vs Spy 2
First Star Software
1985
The second game to feature the antics of MAD magazine’s devious Black Spy & White Spy is another cracker. Great graphics, new and even sneakier traps and ace 2-player action make this a fantastic game.
My Favourite C64 Tie-in Games No.13
The Trapdoor
Piranha
1986
This arcade adventure/puzzler is based on the brilliant 1980s animated TV show of the same name. The dark, spooky backgrounds & big, brilliantly drawn characters are superb & the innovative gameplay is excellent.
My Favourite C64 Tie-in Games No.17
Flash Gordon
MAD
1986
FLASH! AH-AH! Based on the comic strips & 1980 film, Flash Gordon is made up of 3 parts: a jungle-set arcade adventure, a beat ‘em up & a 3D blaster. Very playable with nice graphics & ace tunes; & great value at £2.99
A worst top 20 of tie-ins might be worth doing for a laugh! There were so many shockers released that deserve naming and shaming!
Just a heads-up. Tie-in games already included in other lists – for example, Emlyn Hughes's International Soccer or Samurai Warrior The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo - won’t appear here. So please don’t shout at me for not including Bruce Lee! (4/4)
However, amongst this steaming pile of 8-bit 💩, a few diamonds shone through, & in this list, I’ll draw a veil over the likes of Inspector Gadget, Judge Dread & Highlander and remember the brilliant licence games instead. So, let's get on with my Top 20 C64 Tie-in games. (3/4)
My Favourite C64 Race Games No.5
Kikstart 2
Mastertronic
1987
Shaun Southern was the master of the C64 racer & his 4th game on the list (!) is another absolute beauty. Slick presentation, great graphics, an ace track editor and brilliant gameplay. All for under £3?! Shut up!
My Fave #C64 Race Games No.6
Stunt Car Racer
MicroStyle
1989
Geoff Crammond’s 2nd entry on the list is an original & technically astounding game. Whizzing around rollercoaster tracks performing outrageous jumps & causing spectacular crashes is as much fun as it sounds. Superb
