#121 Lancelot
Less known is Lancelot’s relationship with Galehaut. Galehaut was so taken by Lancelot’s battle prowess he SURRENDERED to Arthur just so he could meet him. He later gives up his happiness so Lancelot can be with Guinevere. And yes, it’s pretty gay. Seriously.
#120 Nitocris
Nitocris’ outfit is, in fact, TOO modest for the time period. She would have worn little more than jewelry and the finest see-through silks to show her wealth. She also would have shaved her head and worn a stylish wig. As a god-king, why would she be embarrassed?
#119 Artoria Pendragon
Surely I’ve run out of King Arthur facts by now? Well I haven’t. Don’t worry.
Historians believe that Arthur’s dog, Cavall, was originally a horse thanks to a scribal error. They note that ‘Caballus’ means ‘horse’ in Latin, very close to ‘Cavall’.
#114 Minamoto no Raikou/Yorimitsu
One of the earliest Minamotos of note for his military record, he was most notable for getting rid of the bandits on Mt. Ooe. According to an Edo era play, his mother later gave birth to Ushi-gozen, who is Raikou’s split personality in game.
#111 Irisviel von Einzbern (the Dress of Heaven)
The heroine of Fate/Zero. Like her husband, her addition came as a surprise to longtime fans. Despite her appearance, she is a homunculus only about ten years old. Kiritsugu first met her when she was still in a test tube.
#110 Hundred-Faced Hassan
Hassan was a member of the Nizari Ismaili Muslims. The teachings of the Nizari emphasize independent reasoning and the acceptance of cultural, racial and religious differences. The Assassins referred to the entire sect, not just the actual assassins.
#109 Kiritsugu Emiya
The protagonist of Fate/Zero and the driving force behind Fate/stay Night, Kiritsugu’s addition to the FGO cast was a surprise to most. When he first appeared in commercials, fans speculated he was another form of Archer EMIYA. (Continued in alt text)
#108 Iskandar the Great
One of the greatest military commanders of all time, Iskandar’s inner circle were not all yes-men. Iskandar was happy to adopt traditions and fashion from conquered areas, especially Persia, which alienated quite a few of his Macedonian advisors.
#107 Angra Mainyu
Fittingly because he’s not the ‘real’ Angra Mainyu, Angra Mainyu itself was not originally a person, but a concept in Zoroastrianism where it effectively means “destructive mind”. The concept later solidified as a malevolent deity, the proto-Satan concept.
#106 Joan of Arc
Despite what her name implies, Joan was never from a place called “Arc”. Arc comes from her father’s name which was “Darc” but there was no consistent spelling at the time. When dictating letters, she referred to herself as Jeanne la Pucelle (Joan the Maiden).
