(2/4) This lost Pokemon's original Japanese name was "Purakkusu," which translates into English as "Plucks."
For simplicity's sake, here I've been referring to him by his English fan-name "Plux." But like all lost 1997 Pokemon, Game Freak never gave him an official English name.
Lost Pokemon of the Day: Plux
First revealed when Gold & Silver's 1997 demo leaked in 2018, Plux was originally planned to evolve from Pinsir at level 42. He appeared just after Scizor in the demo Pokedex -- the two were likely meant as rivals.

Beta Girafarig:
The original Dark/Normal type Girafarig used in Gold & Silver's 1997 demo made a lot more sense, since its name in both English and Japanese (キリンリキ) is the same backwards & forwards.

Improving Shinies:
Quite a few Pokemon had their Shiny colors changed in Gen 3. Many were definite improvements over their Gen 2 Shinies, which were too similar to their non-Shiny colors. Which begs the question -- should Game Freak improve some Shinies in Gen 9?
Gen 2 • Gen 3
Beta Politoed:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Poliwhirl evolved into Politoed with a Heart Stone -- a scrapped item also used for evolving Natu into Xatu, and Eevee into Espeon.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Baby Blastoise
First revealed when Gen 1 beta assets leaked in Feb 2019, this turtle was Blastoise's original pre-evolution -- created before Blastoise was merged with the Squirtle family.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Beta Wartortle Evolution
First revealed when Gen 1 beta assets leaked in February 2019, this Pokemon was the original evolution of Wartortle -- in Gen 1's beta, Blastoise was unrelated.

Beta Quagsire:
Late in Gen 2's development, Quagsire's beta design was identical to his final design... except he was pink. He was later changed to blue, but pink ended up as his Shiny color.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Mikon
Mikon was originally created for Gen 1, but ended up getting cut due to lack of cartridge space. One year later, Mikon returned in Gold & Silver's 1997 demo... but ultimately, got cut from Gen 2 as well.

Beta Mantine:
Mantine's typing of Water & Flying makes a lot more sense once you've seen his original design from Gold & Silver's 1997 demo -- which btw, was named Haneei, "Winged Stingray."
