Part of the puzzle: in many of the publicity pics Carole is shown with Lukas and another actor, Arthur Pierson. And according to early studio press hype (R), Pierson’s role is slated as one of three potential suitors for Carole’s character. But major rewrites were soon made.

More of the scene with Louise on her swing and the chorus girls doing their thing in The Canary Murder Case (1929). Trivia: the title cards for the original silent version were written by Herman J. Mankiewicz who would go on to more challenging work scripting Citizen Kane (1941):

Trivia: Fawcett originated the character of Captain Marvel in 1940 via Whiz Comics and was a success for over a decade, even outselling Superman. The company later exited the comic business after being sued by DC for copyright infringement. Captain Marvel reborn in 2019 (R):
