My 2020 Christmas cards: A Sci-Fi Santa dressed in a “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” (1993 - 1999) uniform. Media: Pen & ink and Dr. Ph. Martin’s watercolors on Strathmore 300 Series smooth Bristol board.
Giant-Size X-Men: Storm (2020) #1
Storm has thirty days to live. Writer Jonathan Hickman, Artist Russell Dauterman, Colorist Matthew Wilson: Hickman does an exemplary job explaining why each mutants’ life matters. The Dauterman-Wilson art is perfection on the page. 5/5
Iron Man (2020) #1
Tony goes back to iron basics. Writer Christopher Cantwell, Artist Cafu, Colorist Frank D’Armata: I like Tony’s return to NYC, his more moderate lifestyle and simplified armor; but I was most pleasantly surprised by the appearance of Patsy “Hellcat” Walker. 4/5
The Cimmerian: The Frost Giant’s Daughter #1
Conan appears before Heimdul on the blood-soaked frozen lake. Adapted from writer Robert E. Howard by writer-artist Robin Rechtm: The sporadic use of prose, allows Rechtm’s dark art in large panels to the convey the perfect tone. 5/5
The Amazing Spider-Man (2018) #48
Spider-Man has a little help from his spider-friends and a difficult decision to make. Writer Nick Spencer, Penciler Marcelo Ferreira, Roberto Poggi, Colorist David Curiel: A bit overlong, but the external/internal dialogue was fascinating. 4/5
Captain Marvel (2019) #21
Captain Marvel prepares for the future. Writer Kelly Thompson, Penciler Cory Smith, Adriano Di Benedetto, Colorist Tamra Bonvilain: I would have liked to have read this Empyre tie-in earlier, but it was still a satisfying end to Carol’s role in it. 4/5
