#NextIssueIAnxiouslyAwait
The next issue I anxiously await is: THE AUTUMNLANDS #15 by Kurt Busiek, Benjamin Dewey and Jordie Bellaire. The Autumnlands #14 was released on January 4, 2017, about fifteen months ago, and I haven’t seen a solicit for #15 yet.
Avengers (2016) #673
Avengers split up and try to stop the merging of worlds. Waid writes a good, solid super-group collaboration and Pina, Diaz and Rosenberg contribute clear, precise art. I would have preferred this be self-contained in Avengers. 3/5
Frankenstein: Alive, Alive! #4
The Monster’s subjugation comes to an end. Steve Niles does an admirable job of completing this, despite the long delay due to the passing of artist Bernie Wrightson, who only completed 5 pages. Kelly Jones does his best to emulate the master. 4/5
Mech Cadet Yu #8
The Cadets defy orders and attack the Sharg Mothership. Greg Pak elaborates on both the ground and space action, but the story is slowing down just a bit as a result. I do love Takeshi Miyazawa and Triona Farrell’s detailed, but still energetic art. 3.5/5
Infinity 8 #1
A space ship transporting 257 different races, is unable to navigate through a debris field and Agent Yoko Keren is sent to investigate. Writers Lewis Trondheim/Olivier Vatine Zep’s minimalist style allows Dominique Bertail’s brilliant pulpy art to shine! 4.5/5
Mighty Thor (2015) #700
The Thors fight on multiple realms! Aaron corrals a virtual who’s who of artists in 54-pages of mostly magnificently-illustrated larger-than-life action! 4.5/5
All-New Guardians of the Galaxy (2017) #12
The Guardians get some unexpected help in their search for the Infinity Stones. Despite the serous subject, writer Gerry Duggan interjects some nice humorous moments. No one draws space quite as elegantly as Marcus To. 4.5/5
Doctor Strange (2015) #26
Strange demonstrates to Zelma how to deal with a corruptor of Souls! John Barber scripts a nice single story about Strange and his new apprentice. Niko Henrichon’s dark-sketchy art works exceptionally well on this underground setting. 4/5
Barbarella #5
On advise from a dead friend, Barbarella takes a detour to Falladim. I appreciate how much story Mike Carey crams into each issue, while still maintaining a sense of a story arc. Artist Kenan Yarar’s detailed - but not overcrowded - style, contributes to this. 4/5
The Autumnlands #14
A goddess and a champion! @KurtBusiek ends the 2nd arc in spectacle, which @BenjaminDewey glorifies artistically! 5/5
