Captain Marvel (2019) #11
Carol finds a way to stop a “Falling Star.” Kelly Thompson concludes this arc, unfortunately leaving several dangling plot threads. Artist Carmen Carnero and colorist Tamra Bonvillain’s storytelling is sharp as ever. 3/5
Fantastic Four #46 (1966-Jan.)
The Fantastic Four learn of The Seeker and the Inhumans in “Who Would Destroy Us!” Script Stan Lee, Plot-Pencils Jack Kirby, Inks Joe Sinnott. Lee over-dialogues trying to keep apace of Kirby’s jamb-packed plot that bursts with imagination! 4.5/5
Powers of X (2019) #6
Moira’s final chance to save mutantkind. Writer Jonathan Hickman begins at the end, to brilliantly set the stage for the X-Men future. Artists R. B. Silva & Pepe Larraz and colorists Marte Gracia & David Curiel art blends seamlessly, establishing tone. 5/5
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (2015) #49
Things aren’t looking good for Squirrel Girl and her friends - until it does. Writer Ryan North channels his inner throw-in-every-Marvel-character-you-can-think-of nerd, to fantastic effect. Artist Derek Charm’s fingers must hurt. 4.5/5
Daredevil #12 (1966-Jan.)
Daredevil, captive of The Plunderer, finds himself “Sightless, in a Savage Land!" Script Stan Lee, Plot-Layout Jack Kirby, Pencils-Inks John Romita. A wildly improbable story, but with this-fan-favorite Romita as DD’s new artist, looking fine. 3/5
Daredevil (2019) #12
Matt rescues Daredevil from dirty cops and Mayor Fisk mingles with the rich. Writer Chip Zdarsky delights and surprises, with two characters pivoting in different directions. Artist Marco Checchetto and colorist Nolan Woodard are doing seminal work. 4.5/5
@IowasJoe @ProfessorFrenzy @btoandbatbooks I saw the first issue and the odd size kept me from buying it. I then foolishly forgot about the series and didn’t pre-order the trade. Fortunately, the manager at my LCS (who I’ve known for 30 years) had one copy of the trade and asked me if I was interested. Silly question!
@IowasJoe @RobKrygier @MikeMyersBrunch @Upshot_Studios I only read The Resistance because my LCS @NEcomics put the first issue in my sub folder. I liked it and the creators behind AWA Upshot to give their other titles a try. Their timing to start a new comic line couldn’t have been worse, so who knows how long that will be.
Death or Glory #9
Glory to the rescue! Writer Rick Remender compliments artist Bengal’s breathtaking imagery with crackling dialogue, that combine into a whirlwind of exciting action and drama. 5/5
Amber Blake Paperback | IDW Publishing | 112 pages
