The Amazing Spider-Man (2017) #794
Is Spider-Man prepared for Zodiac’s return? Slott has set up Zodiac as a formidable foe, which helps Dan bring the best out in Spidey. Having Stuart Immonen and Wade von Grawbadger on art is a treat! 4/5
Future Quest Presents: Frankenstein Jr. #12
My favorite panel by artist @Mauricet34 : page 8, panel 1 — Frankenstein Jr. flys low over the ocean into battle! Artist Alain Mauricet’s more robotic redesign still nicely maintains the character of the original design.
#HannaBarbera
Avengers (2016) #675
The Earth is thrown into chaos and The Avengers are called into action. Waid, Ewing and Zub kick off the 16-issue weekly “No Surrender” series with lots of action and tease more to come. Pepe Larraz and David Ciriel’s fluid art keeps things moving! 4/5
Hawkeye (2016) #14
Clint’s rescue plan for Kate goes sideways. Kelly Thomson masterfully manages multiple characters, with differing personalities. Leonardo Romero’s artwork and Jordie Bellaire’s colors blend flawlessly. 5/5
Infinity 8 #3
Agent Keren enlists the aid of the corpse-eating Kornalien to stop the mob attacking the Inifinity 8's engine core. Writer Trondheim spends a little too much time on banter, but overall concludes the first arc - with artist Bertail’s imaginative art - in style! 4/5
Paper Girls #21
The girls find a sanctuary in the far future. Vaughn stretches the bounds of narration-less comics, relying on on his artists, Chang and Wilson, and letterer Fletcher to make clear the writer’s narrative. Their success is what makes this so compelling. 5/5
The Amazing Spider-Man (2017) #793
An infected Spidey is stealing from Black Cat. Slott is excellent at juggling multitudes of characters, but Venom and it’s many offshoots just don’t interest me. 3/5
Dead Hand #2
Frederick’s interrogation ends. Higgins’ doles out just enough about the mystery of Mountain View and its residence to make me keep reading. Mooney and Bellaire’s art can be a bit abstract at times. 4/5
Mighty Thor (2015) #702
Jane confronts Odin! Aaron slips in a nice light moment between Thor and Hercules, which nicely contrasts the dark tone this arc has taken. I gasp in awe at Dauterman and Wilson’s renderings of Asgard. 5/5
Future Quest Presents #11
Dorno is granted God-like powers. My favorite part of this issue is the beutiful variant cover by Nicola Scott and Romulo Fajardo, Jr.! Writer: Rob Williams | Penciler: Aaron Lopresti | Inker: Matt Ryan 3/5
