@millsbw It took thirty years (1966/67), but #SaturdayMorningCartoons were once again safe for Superhero and Sci-Fi shows in 1996/97! The New Batman/Superman Adventures | Men In Black: The Series | X-Men | Silver Surfer
Monstro Mechanica #5
Leonardo is a assaulted by assassins. Paul Allor writes crisp dialogue, which is nicely complimented by Chris Evenhuis’ art and Sjan Weijers’ colors. However, the pacing and story mechanics leave me puzzled sometimes. 3/5
@1BrianAllen @millsbw Steve Rude did some interior art on DC’s Future Quest #3 that came out July 2016, that featured H-B’s Birdman!
I Hate Fairyland #18
Duncan searches for Larry, with the hope of bringing back the only one who can save Fairyland from Dark Cloudia! Skottie Young riffs on some obvious comics tropes, while still dishing up his usual mayhem! 4/5
Abbott #4
Despite being fired as a reporter, Elena continues her investigation. Writer Ahmed makes Elena feel so real because he devotes equal attention to both her flaws and strengths. Artists Kivelä and Wordie’s deceptively simple lines and colors add a lived-in look. 4.5/5
Doctor Strange (2015) #381
Loki is Sorcerer Supreme... for reasons. Writer Donny Cates starts off his run with a wicked plot twist and humor. Walta and Bellaire team-up to produce some finely-detailed, somewhat comical art that compliments this arc nicely. 4/5
Infinity 8 #2
Agent Karen Yoko, trapped in space outside the Infinity 8 interstellar cruise ship, must stop the crazed Kornalians who have turned their guns on the ship’s reactor core! More Heavy-Metal-like goodness from writer Lewis Trondheim and artist Dominique Bertail! 5/5
Mighty Thor (2015) #701
War Thor stands alone against Mangog! Aaron is the best at emulating the simplicity of a Lee/Kirby epic slugfest, while keeping the tonal complexity of modern comics. Harren/Stewart’s art definitely has a Kirby vibe. 3/5
Ms. Marvel (2015) #24
Ms. Marvel and Red Dagger try to stop a runaway train! Wilson still manages to write quirky, funny character bits into this madcap super-hero action piece. Olortegui and Herring’s art is tensely paced, while still beautiful to look at. 4/5
Death or Glory #1
Glory chooses a way to pay for her dying Father’s surgery that involves mob killers, crooked cops and her psycho ex-husband! This 40-page first-issue delivers the kind of adrenaline rush that only writer Rick Remender and artist Bengal could deliver! 5/5
