Noel Brannan 1921-2001 b. Tynemouth, trained at Lincoln School of Art & Leicester College of Art. He painted industrial landscapes, often in Warwickshire & the East Midlands and despite a full time career as an art teacher, he still managed to exhibit his work quite extensively.
Austin Mecklem 1890–1951 b. Colfax, Washington, trained at the Art Students League, New York before travelling across Europe. He settled at the Maverick colony, Woodstock with his wife & fellow artist, Marianne Appel & is best known for his mural work during the Great Depression.
Seth Clark: Pittsburgh designer & collage artist, graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008. He creates collage and sculpture from a range of found materials to depict dilapidated and abandoned buildings.
Hilda Goldwag 1912-2008 b. Vienna, left for Scotland in 1939, but permits arrived too late for her family & she lost them all in the Holocaust. Loss touched much of her work, but she was charming & much loved, finally winning deserved acclaim for her paintings of urban Glasgow.
Arthur Delaney 1927-1987 b. Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester. I have been alerted to the fact that my earlier posting of Arthur’s work did not carry a warning for those with a tram allergy. I therefore offer my sincere apologies alongside this tram free selection of his work 😂

Frank Taylor Lockwood 1895 -1961 b. Linthwaite, Huddersfield. After service in WW1, he worked as a commercial artist at Cadbury’s, Birmingham. He recorded many buildings swept aside by an explosion of house building around the City. Father of Arthur Lockwood (see earlier tweet).
Lucy Manfredi b.1974, artist who works primarily in oils. She studied at Manchester Met University and is a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. “Waiting for Chips” (top left) is today’s everything #Glorious 😍 #NorthernArt
Henry Martin Gasser 1909-1981 b. Newark, New Jersey, artist, teacher & author. Known for his social-realist paintings, he was deeply affected by the Great Depression & his work often includes the familiar device of the solitary figure to symbolise alienation and personal struggle
Brian Bradshaw 1923-2016 b. Bolton, won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art & became a multi award winning artist. Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Art Ed. & later Chair of Fine Arts at Rhodes University S.A where he founded the influential Grahamstown Group.
