As I’m on a “Dark City” roll here is some random concept art from the film by Patrick Tatopoulos and others for the film.

I did used to own a book that featured more of the concept art for the film but for the life of me I could not find it in my collection.

Starting my day by annoying everyone in my household by playing the pioneering electronic soundtrack to “Forbidden Planet.”
Give it a whirl (you can listen for free on Amazon Prime Music).

“That’s not music!”

I’ve been posting a lot about older films, but tonight brings me back to the lurid modern world of 2019 with “VFW” (Veterans of Foreign Wars).
This one has been highly recommended to my by a friend who sold it to me as a modern take/homage to “Assault on Precinct 13.” Here goes.

A few more out of context paintings and storyboards by Paul Chadwick from the under appreciated/seen 1988 film.

There is a very nice Arrow Video blu ray release of the film chock full of extras (although I don’t remember it including concept art/boards).

Saying that, I did like the newly commissioned artwork (not always the case) for the UK 4K steelbook of Studio Canal’s “Don’t Look Now.”
Plus the film’s restoration from the original camera negative is stunning and brings out the best in the film’s locations and cinematography.

I’ll hear nothing bad said about ‘Mant!’ Dan!

Woolsey was just ahead of his time and knew where to splash the budget (on the ant effects and the costume) and where to make savings. He was a shred film maker with an eye for the effects!

Looks very nice.

One detail you might want to capture is that Dan’s upper jaw has a flattened S curve turned on its side. It’s something gets lost in other interpretations of his skull (even in the sequel game). His skull be tricky to model as it’s quite an abstract shape

Aw no, another of the ALIEN greats has left us.

From, NASA, Star Wars, Alien, Aliens, The Abyss, Back to the Future and many, many more concept designs.

RIP Ron Cobb.

It’s flattering to still be getting reviews for “Surface Tension” all these years later. I wrote/drew this series & book in 2013 and it’s weird to now be living for real its themes of isolation (mentally, ideologically and physically) and evolution during our own global pandemic. https://t.co/lA5QbSXNXB
