Ahh… a few more images, why not. :)
I sometimes look back on this work and think how on earth did I draw it all? Especially as I had stage 3B cancer at the time. I guess that a lot of thoughts of corrupted fleshy mortality seeped out into the work - all that transforming flesh!
Always fun to draw characters and their reaction shots/beats - those little reaction moments when you can play with time and emotional responses across panels.
Not big actions scenes but observational moments of emotion.
“Surface Tension” - 2016 Titan Comics.
Ecological horror.
Written and drawn by me. :)
Sometimes, I wish that I’d drawn more original comic books. This one got optioned twice by two different producers to be made into a TV show, never happened in the end but it was a fun ride.
Those same hydronic supports that I would sometimes have to squeeze under (they could be lowered) appear in this scene from “Coal Face.”
Of course, I didn’t see many ‘dragons’ at the coal face but there were digging machines that made a similar impact (hence this scene).
I would love this big tome of Fellini’s drawings made from his dreams and diaries. It’s a little out of my price range (!). Can someone super rich buy it for me as a late Christmas present, or perhaps an early birthday gift? Cheers! :)
And that’s, why as good AI generated imagery is at first glance, it never fills me with a sense of wonder, inspiration and aspiration at what artists as individuals can achieve - based on their growth, the context of experience, history and their dreams and nightmares.
Why has no one made a good affordable accurate (Neca style) Evil Maria/Futura robot from Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis.” It’s such an movie icon that it’s a shame that we don’t have a good quality posable figure.
I know we have cheapo tat versions or unaffordable statue figurines.
Did that specific time slot have a name? I’d love to get a list of all the films that they would usually show as it was consistently good in terms of choices.
And before that the other curated time slot for films that I would have otherwise missed would be Alex Cox’s Moviedrome.
Does anyone remember the time in the 1990s when BBC 2 would show old thrillers and noir films on a Saturday afternoon? I wold often watch them usually while nursing a hangover. I discovered so many great films I would have otherwise missed, including lots of Sam Fuller films.
Because the story is themed around smoke and industrialisation (both historic and the present) I needed the book to have a heavy charcoal texture to represent the need to escape the effects of the smoke.
I wanted to push myself and take on a new direction/style from my last book.
