I’m aware that Terry Gilliam has fallen out of favour these past few but I’m very happy to see that “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” is getting a 4K release in the New Year. A personal favourite.

Although I wish Criterion offered optional covers (like most other labels do).

The feel and atmosphere of those old black and white photos and art is something that I have been drawing on these past few years for my upcoming socio-monster illustrated novel “Coal Face - The devil in the smoke.”

More news soon.

Beautiful concept/production work drawings that exude such atmosphere. I’m aware that colour art is always more eye grabbing to the casual observer, but for me B&W work is my true love. Drawing on old masters such as Dore and Piranesi for inspiration.

Whenever I need to refocus myself as an artist (especially on my current book) I always like to revisit my first loves - in this instance the gorgeous pencil concept art for RKO’s 1933 “King Kong.”
I love the use and dependence on light and shadow in black and white pencil art.

Concept art from Alex Proyas’ “Dark City.” A mostly forgotten film that languished in the vaults for a while before being released into theatres in a cut form and a terrible voice over added that gives away it’s mysteries. Some of its sets/stylings were reused by “The Matrix.”

‘Ridleygrams’ for “Raised by Wolves.”

Bringing his Metal Hurlant/Moebius inspired A game to the production.

I rewatched the first episode of “Raised by Wolves” again (directed by Ridley Scott). They fit so much into those first two Ridley Scott episodes.
Then I checked all of the behind the scenes of Scott drawing his storyboards and doodling while on set.

I’d gone there to have a look at the Doré on display… ‘L’Enigma.’

France lays in ruin and defeat, perhaps from war or the end of the world. A winged woman seeks answers from a mythical sphinx.

Also this stunning official Hammer “Dracula” film poster. It’s fun to zoom in Graham’s poster art to isolate the key moments from films and to appreciate his traditional paint brush work.
This will love wonderful when it is all framed, preferably in ornate gilded gothic frame!

Damn it, now I want a gangly spindly Winslow Leach action figure.

But thankfully I can’t afford any of the crazy prices that they go for.
