When Kuririn first comes knocking at Roshi’s door, he has already spent about 8 years training at Oorin Temple (based on real-world martial arts hub Shaolin Temple). 8 months later at the tournament, he gives his age as 13, making him 5 at most when he began his training.
Dai borrows Goku’s trademark “let them hit you, and if you don’t die, you win” strategy. Somehow it seems a bit more well-reasoned here.
@zephyrchan @teamfourstar @t_unmasked @TheAn1meMan 兎人参化 is the Rabbit Gang boss’ name, meaning a rabbit who turns people into carrots (人参 in this case referring to carrots)
@cavery210 Midichlorians? Yeah, the Red Ribbon Army made a bootleg of those too
@DrJamezSavage Vegeta refers to 16 as a deku no bō (written in kana here as でくのぼう, and translated by Viz as “big moron”)
Dr. Slump is full of animal people, and in early DB you’re lucky if you can walk down the street without being mugged by them. But as the manga progressed they became rarer and rarer, until in the Buu arc they’re reduced to tournament audience cameos for the eagle-eyed.
This isn’t to say that all the animal folk on DB Earth were created via Animorphalin. In the game, Oolong specifies that he’s a natural-born pigman, and in the manga we see a furry fleeing Piccolo Senior’s rampage, centuries before Animorphalin was all the rage.
Oolong explains that Mt. Frypan caught fire about 10 years before Bulma and co visit, so Daizenshuu 7 dates this to 739, a decade prior to the start of the series in 749. Annoyingly, Viz adds narration later describing Ox King and Chi Chi as being locked out “for months now”.
Then when Raditz shows up, Roshi recounts this story again, this time saying how Gohan found a violent “baby” (赤ん坊). You’ll note that unlike the anime version of this speech, here Roshi doesn’t say anything about Gohan finding Goku inside a spaceship.
Soon after meeting Bulma, Goku mentions how Gohan found him in the mountains, having been apparently abandoned by his parents as a baby (赤ん坊). Later, Roshi recalls Gohan told him about adopting a child (こども) with a tail.
