Finally, in the wake of Battle of Gods, Toriyama started his manga Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, which turned out to be a DB prequel in a final shock twist that shocked approximately seven people. Nowadays, even Goku and Vegeta have served as Galactic Patrolmen.
Post-DB, Toriyama did some collab manga with best friend Masakazu Katsura featuring the Galactic Patrol, although these weren’t in the same continuity as DB (or each other).
Toriyama liked this TV special so much that he ended up putting Bardock into the manga, where Freeza spots Goku as a chip off the ol’ block.
Enough chronology, let’s do a nice simple topic: Bardock. Raditz tells Goku their parents died in Vegeta’s destruction, but there were no further details until the Bardock TV special depicted Goku’s dad standing up to Freeza after having a premonition of his planet’s destruction
Obviously the timing of Goku’s birth is bound up with Goku’s age. When he first meets Bulma, Goku gives his age as 14, but this is quickly retconned at the 21st TB, where Goku explains that he’s really 12 and only said 14 earlier because he sucks at math
