It's such a small thing, but Dragon Man's pacifism and reading glasses are so fun.
I hope he's staying out of this 2020 AI war story that's going on now.
But I also want a team-up between him and Nextwave era Machine Man.
And on re-read, I like how they make it clear how nearly impossible this is. Because that explains why they can't just do it for everyone.
But it still raises questions about why it can't be done more often, why Reed doesn't do more to cure cancer, etc.
Mixed feelings, as I said.
Well, it seems it's mostly because he's power hungry and wants to kill Hitler and take over.
See, Reed says the Reeds from the council chose to leave their families behind so they could solve everything. Here, we learn some of them didn't bother with families in the first place.
It's a fun, disturbing AU story. Not a jumping on point at all. But a good glimpse at what kind of men the other Reeds were. In this case, Reed and Johnny and Sue were Nazis and Ben was a slave and Reed cut out part of Doom's brain and implanted it in himself.
Dragotta's art is the best. I love how many Franklin and Galactus moments we've had since Hickman established this.
"For if we live, there is hope.
And if we hope, there is tomorrow.
And if tomorrow... then... forever."
So the ultimate plot is revealed. Reed is meant to die, but Nathaniel manipulated events at Franklin's direction in order to buy the time he would need to show up and save his father's life. Because every boy deserves a father.
And the two stories come together.
Dragotta's take on these events is so good. I need to look for some of his original art. Especially the first of these 2 pages.
