is by for “Little Polly Flinders sat among the cinders”, from his 1964 Mother Goose collection. Resplendent colour, and characterful texture as always. Amazing how he can turn something small & domestic into a piece of dramatic theatre!

is by for “The Selfish Giant” from “Oscar Wilde - Stories For Children” (1990). A gorgeous edition of some favourite tales illustrated with PJ’s customary attention to detail - from costume and character to the Botticelli-like flowers!

is by Sybille von Olfers, for The Story of the Snow Children (1906). Von Olfers was a German nun who also taught art and created books with charming, art nouveau illustrations and imaginative tales. A curious, bewitching book.
