@RoyalNavy career but is most famous for defeating 27 Spanish ships with his Fleet of 15 off Cape St Vincent. The action resulted in him being made, Earl St Vincent.
#OnThisDay 1780 Admiral Rodney in HMS SANDWICH defeated a Spanish Fleet off Cape St Vincent, Portugal. After the battle he re-supplied the besieged garrisons at Gibraltar and Minorca. The victory at St Vincent owes much to @RoyalNavy ships speed due to having copper sheath hulls.
#OnThisDay in 1759 Admiral Hawke defeated the French at the Battle of Quiberon Bay during the 7 years war. This action ended French Naval superiority and prevented a planned invasion of the United Kingdom. @RoyalNavy
#OnThisDay 1911, King George V granted Royal ascent for the Naval Service of Canada (created the previous year) to be known as the Royal Canadian Navy with all warships prefixed with HMCS from this point. The @RoyalCanNavy has strong ties with @RoyalNavy to this day.
