The #Shipley branch of the Penny Bank est by Sir Edward Akroyd born #OTD 1810. One of the largest #worsted manufacturers & contemporary of #TitusSalt he founded Akroydon village & lived in Bankfield, now a Museum. He was buried in #GradeIListed All Souls #Halifax in 1887.

#TitusSalt bought two cannons from the #NapoleonicWars as features for #Saltaire Park. One of the many stories told is that one was fired #OTD 1805 during the Battle of Trafalgar. Another is that they were melted down for the #WW2 war effort. Mmm #OnceUponATime
In 1886 public funds were used to send 5 children, all bitten by a rabid terrier, from Great Horton #Bradford to #Paris. They were successfully treated by Louis Pasteur, who died #OTD 1895. The disease had killed in #Saltaire. #Vaccination saves lives. #WorldRabiesDay
