February 2021... a month of extremes.
🔴 Very warm month especially from China through Central Asia into the Middle East and also parts of Arctic
🔵 Very cold month for much of North America (Alaska to Gulf of Mexico). Also very cold in Russia and NE Europe.
You would be forgiven for thinking it is early summer. We are at the peak of this European winter 'heatwave'.
Very impressive for February.
That is one heck of a season flip!
This time last week, #Dallas plummeted to minus -2°F (-18.9°C). This was the city's lowest February temperature on record
Today reached a balmy 80°F (+26.7°C).
From exceptional warmth to brutal cold.
Records are being broken left, right and centre this winter. A story of weather extremes across the Northern Hemisphere. But how much is climate change playing a role?

This is how the temperature compares to normal.
🔴 = warmer than normal
🔵 = colder than normal
Absolutely insane and unheard of to achieve this warmth in February.
From Sahara to Scandinavia. We are in for another round of #dust and warmth widely across Europe.
The jet stream will buckle in an ideal fashion, optimising dust transport from the Sahara Desert to Scandinavia this weekend.

Spain, u ok?
Alicante 🇪🇸 just recorded +29.2 °C today. Not so long ago, some parts of Spain were sub -20 °C with deep snow cover. January has been one heck of a rollercoaster for our Spanish friends.
Snow in the Sahara Desert!?
Sounds impossible but it does happen from time to time. I think it is worthy of a news story as it can be a rare and spectacular sight. HOWEVER, there are a few things we should know...

Incredible warmth in the Arctic and across pretty much all of Canada through first half of January 2021.
Large areas more than +10°C warmer than normal. Also widespread warmth across North Africa and Tibetan Plateau.
Brutal cold in central and eastern Asia. Chilly W and N EU.
